CIES Director Professor Brian Uy delivers Keynote and Invited Lectures in China

Professor Brian Uy Professor Brian Uy recently presented a keynote lecture at the 13th International Symposium on Structural Engineering in Hefei from 24-27th October, 2014. His keynote lecture was titled “Applications, Behaviour, Design of Steel and Composite Structures: Australasian Examples. This Symposium series is sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and was organised by Hefei University of Technology (a 211 University) through the Chairmanship of Professor Weixin Ren, Dean of Civil Engineering. Brian also gave a lecture to the Department of Structural Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering at Hefei University of Technology. The Symposium series was originally known as the International Symposium on Structural Engineering for Young Experts (ISSEYE). It has been held every two years in a major city in China since 1990. The previous twelve events have been held in Leshan, Harbin, Shanghai, Beijing, Kunming, Tianjin, Xian, Fuzhou, Changsha, Guangzhou and Wuhan between 1990 and 2012. The symposium series was renamed to “The International Symposium on Structural Engineering (ISSE)” in 2010.

Professor Brian Uy also gave an invited lecture titled “Impact and Blast Loading of Steel and Concrete Filled Steel Members: Experiments, Theory and Analysis” at the 2014 SEM Fall Congress organised by the Beijing Institute of Technology from 19th-22nd October, 2014 at the Beijing Friendship Hotel. The SEM Fall Congress and International Symposium on Intensive Loading and its Effects was chaired by Professor Qiming Zhang (Director, State Key Laboratory for Explosion Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology) and was sponsored by the Society of Experimental Mechanics, USA; Chinese Society of Experimental Mechanics; Chinese Society of Explosion Mechanics; State Key Laboratory for Explosion Science and Technology and the Collaborative Innovation Centre for Safety and Protection. The congress concluded with a tour of the very impressive laboratory facilities of the State Key Laboratory for Explosion Science and Technology at the Beijing Institute of Technology.
