CIES Hosts the visit of Professor Yeong-Bin Yang
CIES hosted a visit by Professor Yeong-Bin Yang - a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the National Taiwan University. Professor Yang is also a foreign member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He was the President (Vice-Chancellor) of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology in Taiwan.
Professor Yang is an authority in structural mechanics, numerical methods for structural analyses, and structural dynamics. He is the Editor-in-Chief of two international journals and member of Editorial Board of another 10 international journals. Yang has published 4 books, near 200 journal papers and about 255 conference papers. He has received 22 honours and awards and also served as the President of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology in Taiwan for 4 years.
Professor Yang's visit to CIES also included 2 seminar presentations with topics focused on structural mechanics numerical methods for structural analyses, and structural dynamics, which proved highly popular amongst our PhD students and related research groups:
“RIGID MECHANICS AND NONLINEAR STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS INVOLVING POSTBUCKLING RESPONSE” and
“2.5D FINITE/INFINITE ELEMENT APPROACH FOR SIMULATION OF TRAIN-INDUCED GROUND VIBRATIONS”.
This second seminar was jointly sponsored by the UNSW Centre for Infrastructure Engineering and Safety (CIES) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Australia Section.
