CIES Members well represented at SS14 in Prague, Czech Republic
CIES staff were well represented at SS14, the 12th International Conference on Steel, Space and Composite Structures in Prague, Czech Republic hosted by the Czech Technical University from May 28th-31st, 2014. CIES Research Director and ARC Laureate Fellow, Scientia Professor Mark Bradford gave a keynote lecture titled “Composite beams with friction-grip bolted shear connection” and ARC DECRA Fellow Dr Huu-Tai Thai delivered a paper titled "Nonlinear inelastic analysis of semi-rigid steel frames” co-authored with Professor Brian Uy.
CIES Director Professor Brian Uy also delivered a keynote lecture titled “Innovative connections for the demountability and rehabilitation of steel, space and composite structures”. The conference included some 50 papers from 18 different nations and was chaired by Professor Frantisek Wald from the Department of Steel and Timber Structures of the Czech Technical University in Prague. This conference series is Chaired by Professor Sing-Ping Chiew from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore with the support of the Singapore Structural Steel Society and CI-Premier Conferences, Singapore.
Professor Chiew announced during the closing ceremony that Professor Brian Uy would be the Chairman for the next conference SS16 and this will be hosted by CIES at The University of New South Wales in Sydney in 2016.
