Professor Brian Uy appointed to ERA 2015 Research Evaluation Committee for Engineering & Environmental Sciences

Professor Brian Uy has been appointed to the Engineering & Environmental Sciences Research Evaluation Committee for ERA 2015.

On February 13, 2015 The Australian Research Council (ARC) Chief Executive Officer, Professor Aidan Byrne, announced the membership of the Research Evaluation Committee (REC) Committees for Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015.

A total of 149 distinguished researchers have been appointed. The REC members will assess and report on the quality of research in Australia as part of the ERA 2015 evaluations.

“These researchers are experts in their field and in research evaluation, and have been selected from a pool of more than 700 national and international researchers nominated by the sector,” Professor Byrne said.

The researchers have been appointed across eight Research Evaluation Committees:

  • Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences
  • Humanities and Creative Arts
  • Engineering and Environmental Sciences
  • Education and Human Society
  • Economics and Commerce
  • Mathematics, Information and Computing Sciences
  • Biological and Biotechnological Sciences
  • Medical and Health Sciences.

ERA is a comprehensive evaluation that considers the entire output of Australian universities’ research efforts. The rigour of ERA is due to the expert interpretation of citation metrics, peer review and other indicators to make judgments about research quality.

Professor Byrne said he was delighted to have such a strong group from Australia and overseas participating in the ERA process in 2015. Collectively the Committee members represent a broad range of expertise and experience, including a great deal of previous experience with ERA.

A brief biography for each of the REC members is available on the ARC website together with further detailed information about the ERA approach
