CIES hosted an international workshop of international speakers on Tuesday 28th January. The theme of this workshop: “Robustness of Concrete Structures” brought together an eminent group of international speakers including:
Professor James Wight - F.E. Richart, Jr. Collegiate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Michigan
Professor Tamon Ueda - Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Japan
Professor Ting-Yu Hao - Central Research Institute of Building and Construction, China

Notes about ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards. International Standards provide state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice, helping to make industry more efficient and effective. Developed through global consensus, they help to break down barriers to international trade. ISO membership consists of a network of national standards bodies, which in turn represent ISO in their country. In Australia ISO is represented by Standards Australia - recognised by the Commonwealth Government as the nation's peak Standards body.
The meeting will provide the members of ISO/TC 71 with an opportunity to further develop international standards in their field. The scope of this Technical Committee includes the standardization of the technology of concrete, of the design and construction of concrete, reinforced concrete and pre-stressed concrete structures as well as testing procedures, to facilitate international exchange of research work. The meeting attracted more than 100 experts in this field from the 37 participating nations, which are represented on the ISO/TC 71 Technical Committee
