The students were visiting several major Australian universities to find out more about their further education and research opportunities. Tsinghua University is a member of the elite C9 League of Chinese universities. It has been consistently ranked as the top university in China. In 2019 it was ranked as the premier university in Asia.

The visit was led by Associate Professor Bisheng Wu, from Tsinghua's Department of Hydraulic Engineering within the School of Civil Engineering. Over their two day visit the visiting Tsinghua students held discussions with many CIES academic staff on our education and research. They visited the CIES laboratories - Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, and the Heavy Structure Laboratory at Randwick, as well as the UNSW Water Research Laboratory.

The students were very interested by the depth and diversity of our research, and the significant opportunities for PhD study.
